The Mayo Diet

Very restrictive, the Mayo continues to attract the candidate (s) to the thinness since the 1980s. Attention, however, if weight loss is rapid, the disadvantages are many.

If the Mayo Clinic is a serious of Minnesota (USA), it is not the cause of this regime that has taken its name!
Principle of the Mayo

This is a classic theory based simply on the fact that it is necessary to reduce the "input" calories (food) to start a weight loss. As a result, the scheme proposes to strictly control calorie intake of the day, and it is part of the long list of schemes known as "low calorie."

Just follow the exact menu rigid and imposed on a couple of weeks (less than 800 kcal daily !..). It is rather rich in protein, and food are taken split into three meals, the intake of sugar-free beverages (water, teas, tea ...) is not limited.
The Mayo system in practice

The regime banned sugar and fat added, and does very little dairy and vegetables, but calls about six eggs per day in menus imposed that it is advised to follow without the slightest deviation.

Here s an example menu: breakfast, 1 coffee or tea without sugar, 1 or 2 eggs and 1 grapefruit; lunch, tomatoes at will with very little dressing, again 2 eggs and 1 cup of coffee or tea without 1 sugar; dinner, still 2 eggs, 1 green salad at will with very little sauce, 1 slice of bread toasted, 1 and 1 grapefruit tea without sugar.
Effectiveness of the scheme Mayo

It is considered effective in the short term with a minimum weight loss of 5 kg in two weeks, the men could even reach 7 or 8 kg! But in the medium and long term, the results are disastrous, and the "yo-yo" is observed in more conventional.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Mayo

But what are the advantages and disadvantages of this method? Petit panorama:

Advantages: It can be interesting for those who lack imagination because this system offers menus facts. It may also motivate because short-term weight loss is important. After the first two days, there was also very hungry, the eggs are particularly bourratifs.

Disadvantages: It is incompatible with a "normal" life as some fatigue sets in quickly by muscle wasting. The latter is almost mandatory because of low energy, lower basal metabolism, which favors the resumption of weight from stopping the scheme, provided that no advice is issued for the following plan. It generates anyway many deficiencies (calcium, B group vitamins, trace elements ....), especially for the most active. It is also difficult to reconcile with a professional and social life which needs to take their meals outside the home. And with such a consumption of eggs in 15 days (nearly 90 !..), individuals with metabolic disorders of cholesterol should be wary. Last but not least, there is no analysis of spontaneous behavior as food for all schemes "prémachés" (what do I do next?) And it is in any way the education of a nutritional point of view and culinary. It can lead to eating disorders such craving or bulimia. The resumption of weight then is unavoidable since the cessation of menus.

In conclusion, the scheme "low calorie" is to escape, except, possibly, one day, resting at home after a "orgy of food."

     * Not more than 14 consecutive days;
     * Do not change any of the foods mentioned;
     * No alcohol during the regime;
     * Avoid anything that is not notified;
     * Do not eat between lunch and dinner;
     * Do not eat pasta, bread or any product made with flour.

The treatment claims afford to lose 10 kg in 14 days!
A typical week of the Mayo

DAILY
Breakfast: a grapefruit, 2 boiled eggs, coffee or tea without sugar.

MONDAY
Lunch: 2 boiled eggs and a mixed salad without oil, coffee or tea without sugar.
Dinner: 2 boiled eggs, tomato, coffee or tea without sugar.

TUESDAY
Lunch: a tomato, a lettuce, a celery, a cucumber, coffee or tea without sugar.
Dinner: 2 boiled eggs and grapefruit.

WEDNESDAY
Lunch: 2 lamb chops, a celery, a cucumber, coffee or tea without sugar.
Dinner: 2 boiled eggs, spinach and tomatoes.

THURSDAY
Lunch: 2 boiled eggs, fresh cheese, a cauliflower cooked a slice of toast.
Dinner: 2 boiled eggs, spinach and tomatoes, coffee or tea without sugar.

FRIDAY
Lunch: fish cooked without oil, with lemon and a slice of toast.
Dinner: 2 boiled eggs and spinach, coffee or tea without sugar.

SATURDAY
Lunch: tomato and grapefruit.
Dinner: Macedonia fruit whatsoever (at will).

SUNDAY
Lunch: Chicken steamed, grated carrots.
Dinner: chicken steamed, tomato and grapefruit.

Helpful hints:

     * If you can not find white celery, take green celery stalks;
     * Vegetables and meat can be eaten with butter but not olive oil;
     * Drink water and liquids that contain alcohol sweeteners and little gas;
     * You can soften the coffee, tea or fruit salad fruit with sweeteners;
     * When the amounts are not specified, it can consume the food at will;
     * For the system to do its purpose, it must be respected strictly, without adding or removing.

Attention, according to many nutritionists, this system remains unbalanced.
